A Happy Man

The main protagonist of the film, Marvin, lives abroad with his family. The Covid-19 pandemic has geographically isolated him from his loved ones in his native Czech Republic, but that's not the only thing that divides them. Marvin has definitively decided to undergo a transition.

Marvin, a trans man who has been writing LGBTIQ+ literature under a male pseudonym for years, is undergoing a transition. However, part of his family still largely perceives him as the opposite gender, and they struggle to come to terms with the situation—especially Marvin's mom. A significant source of support for him is his partner Ivan, whose story within this relationship is also depicted in the film. We observe the psychological transformations associated with bodily changes and see how, against the backdrop of the isolation caused by the anti-pandemic measures, there is also a psychological detachment within the family. Although social stereotypes make it difficult for some of the family members to accept Marvin's gradually changing identity and appearance, they cannot change their feelings towards their beloved family member.
